^sung to the tune of Jay and Silent Bob's F da Polease. I guess one skill I have is how to get rid of ads. I've gotten rid of ads that were appended to my pages when they were hosted on free servers (prohosting.com and now a certain blog server...). I got rid of the ad on a tagboard that I used. And now I'm block many many many ads with Firefox. For the computer nerds out there, maybe you'll learn some tricks. For the rest of you...you might just want to skip this. When I used to host my site on prohosting.com, they would always append a Javascript script to the end of my html files, so that there was a popup ad. Now, this pissed me off, even though I used MyIE2 (which blocked popups automatically, much like FireFox does now). I mean, how were my faithful readers supposed to enjoy my blog if an ugly, flashing ad appeared over my entry? So I tried adding a <!-- to the end of my template to comment out the javascript. Sneaking prohosting detected that and added a --><script>[code for ad].... I tried adding <script>/* to the end of my template, again, to render the ad script as just comments. Prohosting added */</script><script>[ad...]. Arg! But by adding first <!-- and THEN <script>/*, prohosting did not correct for the <!-- comment! And so the popup ad was slain. Blocking blogspot's Google navbar is pretty easy to do. I've read about it at places such as Itchy Hands, but I've never actually done it. Seems like all I would have to do would be to set the css display value of the navbar to "none." But that'd be wrong. Although once I used a tagboard script, and they started including a LOT of distracting text ads. So I made those font-size: 1px and the same color as the background. I would NEVER cheat Blogger though. Now, you can block anything you want with Firefox. Firefox is like the Reinassance of the Internet Browsers after the long period of spyware and popups via Internet Explorer. I even have simple text link ads from Google blocked by default now. So those ads that you probably see on the sidebar to the left? I can't see them. I just see a little gap between the linkblog iframe and the counter. Weird huh? Well you can find out how to block these ads, and even the flash ads that have recently appeared, but visiting these sites: http://www.floppymoose.com/ http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/adblock.html The problem is, now I can't see my own Google Adsense ads. They can make me money if people click on them (*COUGH*...ahem....winkwink....*COUGH*). So it'd be nice to check up on 'em and see if I'm getting relevant ads. So, for now, I am going back to the Dark Ages by deleting my userContent.css file. For the rest of you, enjoy your adblocking!
