Et tu, volpe del fuoco?

versus:
Firefox is now "for-profit"! According to WP,
The Mozilla Foundation has started a for-profit subsidiary to promote its Firefox Internet browser, the nonprofit group said yesterday, in a move that bolsters its ability to compete with the dominant Microsoft Internet Explorer.
=o=o=o=o I understand that by accepting revenue, Firefox can accelerate its development and further space it ahead of IE. But is it worth it? FF currently has a wide and devoted base of users and developers. What could be gained from going for-profit? I hope Firefox continues to fulfill its role as a standards-compliant browser. With additional full-time developers, Mozilla Corp or whatever the subsidiary is called might be tempted to develop in-house technologies like IE and Opera have--which are a major pain to webdesigners and, subsequently, all webusers. Maybe I'm a communist, but not-for-profit organizations often perform very well in our incentive-driven world. Money can motivate, but it can't inspire. Maybe I'm sounding delirious or like a clergyman, but bear with me. Wonderlab here in Bloomington is infinitely more successful than the Evansville Museum of Art, Science, and History is, in my opinion. Then again, I haven't been inside the Evansville Museum since we took a field trip there...in middle or elemenatry school, I think. Why is Wonderlab so much better? I think it's because it's more fun. The Wonderlab exhibits such as the antclimber or the bubbleairium are plain amusing (and I've become an expert at blowing bubbles with just soapy solution and my hands). Compare that to EMuseum's exhibits. Navajo weavings? Clay people??!! wtf? **also interesting--one look at the sites of the two museums linked above show a starkly different contrast in mission. One aims to present "cool" info while the other seeks to present "important" stuff in a professional, detached way. There's not a single exclamation mark on the EMuseum site!** Oh back to Firefox. Well--as long as it keeps its focus as "la browsa pura", it'll keep its developers interested. And as long as it has its developer base, Firefox will go far :)
