why i switched majors

In yet another example of why I switched from the Biology to Chemistry department, tonight we had our last Genetics test (before the final exam). It gave equal weight to the specific names and phenotypes of syndrome & the actual underlying genetic causes for the syndromes. I understand the class covering syndrome names and phenotypes, since most of the class is probably pre-med, but it's this rote memorization stuff that really puts me off bout biology classes. Let this post be a notice to high schoolers who happen to read this blog.

There's a joke that goes something like:

Someone asked different scientists the question, "What is 2 times 2?"

Engineer [pulls out calculator]: "3.99999999999"

Physicist [after computer simulation]: "4.000 plus or minus 0.002."

Mathematician [after deep thought]: "A positive integer."

Biologist: "A polygamous mating system."

Medical student: "4"
Person taking survey: "Wow! How did you know?"
Medical student: "I memorized it."
