moment of the day: midnight madness
You know you're not attending an Ivy League college if: - The campus is in Indiana - The college perrenially ranks high for "most beer" in the Princeton Review - As a freshman Welcome Week activity, the univeristy sponsors a "midnight madness" where the university runs nonstop shuttles for students to.....Walmart! These things make IU great. Well, tonight was Midnight Madness. Matt (my roommate who is cool) and I waited for the bus at 10...the first two that came by (and there was a 30 min gap between them) were full! And so we went back to the room....but then the temptation of cheap stuff at Walmart was too much and we gave in. We caught the next bus and positioned ourselves perfectly to get to the front of the line and get seats on the bus. After the longest bus ride in history, we got stuff at Walmart (including 1% milk...wonder how that will turn out) and then went outside. Everyone was waiting for the bus to pull up to the exit (we were dropped off by the Lawn and Care section). Instead of waiting, Matt and I walked down to the bus, parked still by the fertilzers. A few other people followed. When the driver got back ("sorry guys... i had emergency call in the back") we were the first ones on the bus! and it was sad/funny/embarassing to see how many people who had been waiting at the exits couldn't fit on the bus later when the driver pulled up the exits. I mean these people had been waiting for at least half an hour for a bus to get back to the campus. Sucks. And then it struck me: what were the ethics of that situation? Surely we'll have a less vicious circle of hell than the silverware stealers or subwoofer-at-1-in-the-morn maniacs.
