bulgogi!

Jiao zi...make room! Bulgogi, a Korean beef dish, is here! Man, all I had for breakfast today was coffee and a PBJ sandwich. So when I was treated to some bulgogi at the Asian Culture Center tonight, I was happy for any food. But I got more than just any food...I got heavenly splendid delight! And it's easy to make! And it's healthy! And so I'm posting the recipe here so I can make this over Thanksgiving or something. Bulgogi 1lb thinly sliced sirloin beef 1Tbs soy sauce 3tbs minced garlic 1.5Tbs sugar 1.5tbs black pepper 5Tbs wine 2tbs sesame oil 1/2 carrot 1/3 onion 1bunch green onion 1tbs sesame seeds some mushrooms

  1. Mix sliced beef with soy sauce, wine, sugar, pepper, sesame seed, and sesame oil
  2. Allow beef to marinate for at least 2hrs
  3. Cook beef, marinade, and vegetables in pan on medium-hot setting. Cook until beef is no longer red.
  4. Itadakimasu!
The demonstrators didn't really follow the recipe, so the ingredients can be varied, omitted, etc. Thinly sliced sirloin beef is available at oriental grocery stores as "bulgogi beef" or it may be requested sliced at a regular grocery store. Brown/white sugar, white/shittake mushroom, it's all good.

Is it okay if I skip the wine part?

Er....you could try that, but the demonstrators said that the wine helps cover up the smell of the beef and makes the dish really fragrant.

Experimenting with cooking is fun though
